Twin Peaks

The scripture for today is Psalms 36:5

 

Psalms 36:5 Your mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and your faithfulness reaches unto the clouds.

 

The first four verses of Psalm 36 outline the depravity of mankind. “The transgression of the wicked says within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes. For he flatters himself in his own eyes until his iniquity is found to be hateful. The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he has ceased to be wise and to do good. He devises mischief upon his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he abhors not evil.” Psalms 36:1-4 His wickedness begins in his heart and continues to his behavior. His deception is complete; He rejects God and pursues evil.

 

The psalmist then contrasts this evil with the greatness, love, and abundant provision of God. “How excellent is your lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of your wings. They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fullness of your house; and you shall make them drink of the river of your pleasures. For with you is the fountain of life: in Your light shall we see light.” Psalms 36:7-9

 

God's goodness and mercy are not affected by the thoughts and behavior of evildoers. They are as high as the heavens and reach into infinite space. “Your mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and your faithfulness reaches unto the clouds.” Psalms 36:5

 

Those who put their trust in God have no need to fear. The evil in the heart of man cannot prevail over the goodness of God. Evil is limited, but God’s goodness and power are infinite. The darkness around us will not consume us because “the fountain of life” is springing up within our hearts and in His light, we see light. That light is shining through us into the darkness of a world that has largely rejected God. His light testifies to the world that God is alive and well in the hearts of His people.  

 

His abundant love is extended to all and, as we live His life of love, the world will see the God of love.  As His light shines through His people, the evil of this world is exposed and those who are enslaved by it are shown a pathway to freedom. May the light of God’s love for mankind shine ever brighter through those who love Him.
