The scripture for today is Psalms 127:1

Psalms 127:1 Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain that build it: unless the LORD keeps the city, the watchman wakes, but in vain.

It is vanity to suppose that we can achieve anything lasting and meaningful without the direction of the Lord. The enemy of our souls seeks to manipulate everyone into doing "their own thing." Even when we try to do what we think is right, all too often our endeavors are merely the products of our desires worked solely through human effort. Human effort without the direction and blessings of the Lord will produce no righteous fruit. "In all our undertakings it is our duty to use with diligence and prudence the means of success; but unless God add His blessing, our labor will be in vain." Family Bible Notes

Our desire is to be successful in the eyes of God, not in the eyes of man. Great movements, and monuments to those movements, have been constructed to glorify man's achievements. And mankind will visit and stroke their monuments as if they have created something truly great. All such monument building is vanity and glorifies man without the acknowledgement of the need for divine guidance. The vanity of such efforts will ultimately be revealed when the King of kings shines the brightness of His glory upon all the earth. None of the monuments of men will be able to withstand the brightness of His coming. Nothing will stand except that which has been done at His direction and reflects His character. All who labor without Him as their guide are wasting their efforts; their work will come to nothing. As children of God we must learn one of life's most important lessons: Without God we can do nothing, but with God all things are possible. We do not want to labor in vain nor watch in vain. We must labor and watch in the LORD.

God bless you as you continue in His service.
