The scripture for today is Psalms 119:73

Psalms 119:73 Your hands have made me and fashioned me. Give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments.

When God created Adam from the dust of the earth and Eve from Adam’s rib, He formed and shaped them by His own design with His own hands; they were the handiwork of God. After they were created, God had no need to go to the earth again for material to make humans. He created within them the ability to procreate. God put within them a reproductive system with incredibly complex cell division and genetic codes and all of the associated biological mechanisms necessary to produce another person. A person like them, but completely different from them. They did not create that new person; God did it through them. He is the Designer, the Creator, and all life comes from Him.

The psalmist says, “Your hands have made me and fashioned me.” God created the entire human race when He created Adam and Eve; we were all inside of them. Every person on earth was formed and fashioned by God through them, and what God did is passed on from generation to generation. Truly, God’s hands have made all of us. He has fashioned us just as surely as He made our first parents.

As we realize how infinitely great and all-knowing God is, we are in awe of Him, and our reasonable inclination would be to fall at His feet in adoration. But, because sin entered the race, we are incapable of that without His grace being extended to us, changing our hearts, creating within us a clean heart so that we can come into His presence. We realize that we need His word and His understanding directing our lives. So, we ask as the psalmist did, “Give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments.”

God’s commandments enlighten our minds to the ways of God. When we understand and learn to follow the commandments of God we find that we are following the steps of Christ. Jesus said, “If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in His love.” John 15:10 Jesus wants us to follow Him in obedience to the Father. The writer of the psalm desired to have that understanding; we must desire it also.

God bless you as you continue in His service.
