Psalms 119:162
The scripture for today is Psalms 119:162
Psalms 119:162 I rejoice at your word, as one that finds great spoil.
Spoil refers to the treasure that is taken from the enemy after the battle has been won. The enemy has been defeated and the treasures of victory belong to the conquerors; it is a time for great rejoicing. The psalmist uses this mental picture to describe the joy of discovering treasure in God’s word.
Often, we have to fight through our own preconceptions, acculturation, and religious bias to find the truth. But when it is revealed to us, there is much joy in our souls. We reverence the Word of God and so desire it in our hearts that we engage in the mission of finding the joy that it contains. “The more reverence we have for the word of God the more joy we shall find in it.” Matthew Henry
The soldier who gives up during the battle will never find great spoil. Only those with the courage to stand and persevere will gain the rewards of victory.
We are not engaged in a physical battle; our battle is much harder than that. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12 The last thing principalities and powers want to see is a child of God holding on to the truth of God’s word. But God has given us His armor and clothed in Jesus Christ, we become victorious. Through Christ Jesus, we are more than conquerors, and with every victory, we “rejoice at thy word.”
God bless you as you continue in His service.
