The scripture for today is Proverbs 6:23

Proverbs 6:23 For the commandment is a lamp, and the law a light; reproofs of instruction are the way of life.

The richness of God’s word is appreciated by those whose minds have been renewed by the Holy Spirit. Without such a renewal, the law of God is rejected and the word of God is not understood. The commandments of God are the directions to a life lived in fulfillment to the will of God; the life of God is imparted through these instructions. “He taught me also, and said unto me, Let your heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.” Proverbs 4:4 Enlightenment to our souls comes through the commandments of God. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.” Psalms 19:8

Without the instructions of God’s holy law, there is no light at all. “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Isaiah 8:20 The holiness and goodness of God are communicated to us through His moral law. “Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.” Romans 7:12

Jesus provided us with the perfect example to follow. He humbled Himself to live on this earth as one of us. He took upon Himself our sin and carried the burden of sin to the cross. The transgressions we have committed through the violation of God’s moral law have been atoned for, and He would say to us as He said to the woman caught in adultery, "Go and sin no more.”

Jesus did not die for our sins so that we could continue in them. He died so that we could be free from them. Every true follower of Jesus Christ walks in obedience to His Commandments; all of them. If you choose to pick and choose which of His commandments you will keep and which you will discard, you are not a true follower of Christ. His commandments are not given for us to decide which ones we will reject and which ones we will obey. The adulterer does not get a pass because He does not agree with the commandment forbidding adultery. The thief does not get a pass because he does not agree with the commandment forbidding stealing. The violator of God’s holy Sabbath does not get a pass because he does not agree with the day God Himself rested on, sanctified, blessed, and gave to man to keep holy. No one gets a pass on any of God’s commandments; all are important to us and to God. He spoke them with His own voice, and then He wrote them with His own finger. Who on earth has the authority to change what God has spoken and written? No one!

“Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.” Proverbs 1:23 “The ear that hears the reproof of life abides among the wise.” Proverbs 15:31

God bless you as you continue in His service.
