The scripture for today is Proverbs 27:19

Proverbs 27:19 As in water face reflects face, so a man’s heart reveals the man.

The clear reflection of a pool of water shows the face of one exactly as it appears. So also, does the heart. The heart is like a mirror; if it is honestly considered, it will precisely reflect the person. But such examination must not be done with a bias for “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9

As we examine our hearts, we must not look in a distorted mirror, seeing only what our deceitful minds want us to see. We must look into the mirror of the divine law of God to see the reflection of ourselves presented there. “For if any be a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror: For he beholds himself, and goes his way, and immediately forgets what manner of man he was. But whoever looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continues in it, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.” James 1:23-25

God has made all of our faces, in many respects, the same. We all have the same characteristics but each one is different. God has also made our hearts to be alike and, in many instances, we can see ourselves reflected in the hearts of others. “A man sees in other men a reflection of his own thoughts and feelings. The better he learns to understand his own mind and motives, the better he can understand others, even though he cannot see and know their actual thoughts.” The SDA Bible Commentary, Vol. 3, p.1041

A heart that is surrendered to Christ has been changed. “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:26 The heart of the converted should reflect the One who secured their salvation and new life. When God looks upon us, He wants to see a reflection of Himself; He wants to see Christ reflected in us. When the world looks upon us, they should see, not people who are like them, but people who are like Christ.

God bless you as you continue in His service.
