The scripture for today is Proverbs 1:5

Proverbs 1:5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels.

Those who attend to instructions in wisdom and the application of understanding are attuned to the Spirit of God. It is through the Holy Spirit that we receive the revelation of the importance of following the instructions that God gives us because of His love for us. "You through your commandments have made me wiser than my enemies: for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers: for your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients, because I keep your precepts." Psalms 119:98-100  

Keeping God's Word ever before us and following the truth that we receive indicates that we embrace the understanding that His Word imparts. "They who have wisdom understand the worth of knowledge, and earnestly seek it; but fools despise all instruction." Family Bible Notes Too often the hearers will listen to God's instructions and conclude that they do not apply to them. But those who hear and follow the instructions and counsels of God become people of understanding and wisdom. Through love and obedience they increase in spiritual prosperity.  "Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning." Proverbs 9:9 

Through Christ we receive the divine instructions we need to live an overcoming abundant life. Whose voice are we listening to? There are only two sources of influence; Christ and Satan. We will follow the influence of one or the other with every decision we make. If we reject the direction that God gives in His Word we have listened to the voice of Satan. It is a much wiser choice to hear and receive God's wisdom and counsel. It is far better to let love for Him direct our thoughts, decisions and behaviors. All of His attributes flow from His love. Wisdom seeks them.
