Matthew 7:21-23
The scripture for today is Matthew 7:21-23
Matthew 7:21-23 Not every one who says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name? and in your name have cast out demons? and in your name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity.
“The words “not” and “but” highlight the strong contrast between the mere talker and the actual doer of God’s will. Mere profession is worthless. He who pretends to know God and yet disobeys His commandments “is a liar, and the truth is not in him” (1 John 2:4), irrespective of any appearance to the contrary.” The SDA Bible Commentary, Vol. 5, p. 358 Many feel that they have a right relationship with God, and will one day walk through those pearly gates, while they intentionally reject and disobey His commandments.
It is important for us to look at ourselves in the light of the word of God. Unless we surrender our lives completely to Christ, any of us could fall into deception and think that we are someplace spiritually that we are not. If love for God is not the motivation for our lives, our words and deeds, we are not in right relationship with Him. And if we love Him, we will keep His commandments, all of them. Not because we are trying to "work" our way to heaven, but because we have heaven in our hearts.
Everyone in heaven will be there because they love God supremely. May we be among those who do not hear the words of our text for today, but rather hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
God bless you as you continue in His service.
