Matthew 6:11
The scripture for today is Matthew 6:11
Matthew 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.
Jesus gave His disciples a model prayer which included our text for today. This single line in the prayer shows us the God is concerned about our every need. Jesus instructs us to ask our heavenly Father for the nourishment needed for each day. Implicit in this instruction is the fact that God is interested in providing for our needs and He desires for us to come to Him and Him alone to have those needs met. It may seem a bit strange to those who do not have a relationship with the Lord for us to pray each day for the food that we need to sustain our lives. But for those who know and love God, it is the only reasonable thing to do. Without Him we are void of life itself. Daily we come to Him with surrendered hearts, bringing all that we are to Him, laying our lives at His feet, acknowledging our total dependence upon Him. We come to Him daily; we surrender daily; we ask for His provision daily. It is only through His sustaining power that we live, regardless of the circumstances that we face each day.
The word "bread" does not refer to just bread as in a loaf; it refers to all that we need to live on. We need both physical and spiritual food. God has an abundant supply of both and He readily provides for those who come to Him in faith, confessing their dependence upon Him, requesting to be supplied from His storehouse of blessings. He provides us with food to sustain our bodies and He provides us with the truth of His Word to feed the "hidden man of the heart." From His bounty we are nurtured; from His Word we are fed. Dear Father, "Give us this day our daily bread."
God bless you as you continue in His service.
