Luke 9:24
The scripture for today is Luke 9:24
Luke 9:24 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.
There is a principle that influences the decisions we make. That principle is "perceived value." We are willing to give the most for that which we value the most. God showed us this principle as He placed the highest value on us. He loved us, valued us so much, that He was willing to give the best that He could possibly offer to redeem our lives. In giving His Son, He gave Himself. "That is, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself" 2 Corinthians 5:19 God, in Christ, placed the highest value possible on us. He was willing to give His life so that we might be saved. This is the expression of the love and character of God.
We, having been redeemed by His grace, are His offspring. Since we are His very own children, we should embody His love and character which are ours by virtue of our new birth. We have been born again, born of His Spirit into Him.
Our text today provides us with a way to see practically what our "perceived values" are and their consequences. If we value this temporal life, we will do everything in our power to save it, even renouncing the Savior. But, if we value Him as much as He values us, we will not do anything to break our union with Him. We will value Him more than these temporal lives. We will give up everything for His sake, including our lives.
We have come to understand that when we are in Him, we cannot lose anything at all. Nothing that we give up for His sake is taken from us; we simply surrender everything to Him because He is who we value. And whatever we lose He replaces with eternal blessings.
God bless you as you continue in His service.
