The scripture for today is Lamentations 5:19

Lamentations 5:19 You, O LORD, remain forever; your throne from generation to generation.

Our text for today is a wonderful statement of truth. It is part of a heartfelt prayer of the prophet Jeremiah as he comes to God for his people who have been relegated to servitude in Babylon for their rejection of God and refusal to hear the instructions sent through His prophets.

“For this our heart is faint; for these things our eyes are dim. Because of the mountain of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes walk upon it. You, O LORD, remain forever; your throne from generation to generation. Why do you forget us forever, and forsake us for so long a time? Turn us back to you, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old. But you have utterly rejected us; you are very angry against us.” Lamentations 5:17-22

It is sin that God hates and He continuously reaches out to His people to steer them from its deadly path. He labored with Israel and Judah for years, but the attractions of the world and the flesh were more appealing to them than the holiness and goodness of God. They soon forgot how much God loved them and how He demonstrated that love by delivering them from bondage and providing them with the very land and abundance they enjoyed. Rather than follow close after the one who had saved them, they rejected their God and Savior and embraced the demonic gods of the heathen nations around them.

But thank God for the power of intercessory prayer. God heard the prayer of Jeremiah and the rest of the remnant who continued to hold to God’s word. After seventy years of captivity, God brought His people back to the land that He promised to their forefathers. “The perpetuity of God's rule over human affairs, however He may seem to let His people be oppressed for a time, is their ground of hope of restoration.” Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Even in our failure and suffering, God is still our only hope. It is important to turn to Him; there is no hope anywhere else.

God bless you as you continue in His service.
