The scripture for today is Joshua 23:8

 

Joshua 23:8 But you shall hold fast to the Lord your God, as you have done to this day.

 

Joshua knew that the time of temptation would come when they must choose to continue to cling to God in faith and obedience or follow the dictates of their sinful flesh. There were still enemies of God in the land and they would do all that they could to entice God’s people to join them in their sinful attachments and in following worthless idols. Joshua encouraged them to follow God continuously as they had in the past. 

 

Just as He did for His people then, God has brought deliverance into our lives from one bondage or another. By grace, we have entered into Christ Jesus; He is our "Promised Land."  We can look back and see where the Lord has brought us from. While we are still growing in grace, we have come out of the wilderness debilitating sin and have experienced God’s love. 

 

God would say to us today, just as He did to His people in Joshua’s day, “hold fast to the Lord your God.” If we are to stand in these last days, when the trials of life increase and the temptations of the world are bearing down upon us, we must seek refuge in our God. We must cling to Him as if our very lives depended on it, because they do. God loves us enough to extend His hand; we must love Him enough to hold fast to it.
