John 8:29
The scripture for today is John 8:29
John 8:29 And He that sent me is with me: the Father has not left me alone; for I do always those things that please Him.
Our text today is the hallmark of Christ’s ministry. He desired to please the Father, and please Him He did, in all things. Pleasing the Father was the life that Jesus lived from childhood and throughout His ministry. At His baptism and anointing by the Holy Spirit, which was the beginning of His earthly ministry, God spoke from heaven; “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:17
Jesus lived in obedience to God before His public ministry began. We also must learn to minister to God before we can minister to others. Jesus provided us the example, “And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” Philippians 2:8 Humility and obedience were the keys to the overcoming ministry of Christ. It is also what we need in our lives in order to be like Him. Not only was Christ obedient to the will of God, but He also delighted to do the Father’s will. The will of the Father was imbedded in His law and Christ had the law of God within His heart. “Sacrifice and offering you did not desire; my ears have you opened: burnt offering and sin offering have you not required. Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me, I delight to do your will, O my God: yea, your law is within my heart.” Psalms 40:6-8 The expression of God’s love flowing through His Son came from the very law that was within His heart.
We can have the same love flowing through us, but we cannot have it in the absence of God’s law within our hearts. His law expresses His love; it is the codification of the character of God and Jesus expressed it perfectly. “It is a small matter to have men opposed to us if we have a conscience void of offense, and evidence that we please God.” Albert Barnes
We would be like Jesus.
God bless you as you continue in His service.
