Hebrews 12:14
The scripture for today is Hebrews 12:14
Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.
Jesus came to earth as a servant and provided the example of what a life of love should be. He is the Prince of Peace. He calls us to live in peace with others, allowing the Holy Spirit to direct our words and deeds, just as He did His. Living in peace does not imply that we should compromise truth in order to get along with someone else. It means that we should always follow the path of truth, honesty, and humility, allowing the peace of God to rule in our hearts so that peace can be communicated in tangible ways to others. As followers of peace we "do not give indulgence to those passions which lead to litigations, strifes, wars." Albert Barnes We surrender our self-will so that the will of God can be done. We give up the right to be right so that His peace can prevail.
We are also directed to live a life of holiness, "That state of continual sanctification, that life of purity and detachment from the world and all its lusts, without which detachment and sanctity no man shall see the Lord - shall never enjoy His presence in the world of blessedness. To see God, in the Hebrew phrase, is to enjoy him; and without holiness of heart and life this is impossible. No soul can be fit for heaven that has not suitable dispositions for the place." Adam Clarke
If we are not following after holiness, we are subject to fall into sin of every kind. Jesus said "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." Matthew 5:8 To see the Lord is not only something we look for in the future, it is also to realize His presence with us now. Only those who are holy appreciate the holiness of God; they are the ones who will abide in His presence.
God bless you as you continue in His service.
