The scripture for today is Genesis 1:22

Genesis 1:22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”

On the fifth day of creation, God made the creatures that live in the waters and the birds that fly.  Amazingly, these creatures, which are so diverse, were created by God with such precision and variety that the world is still discovering species that have never been seen before.

On this day of creation, God pronounced a blessing on the creatures that He made and gave them the command to “be fruitful and multiply.” God did not create them in great abundance, He created them with procreative power and instructed them to “multiply on the earth.” God’s means of increase was procreation. They had the God-given ability to multiply; it was God's gift, and that gift included a blessing for “God blessed them.”

“The fifth day’s work not only was pronounced to be good by the Creator but received a blessing, which was given neither to the inanimate products of God’s creation nor to the plants. This benediction, which focuses on their propagation and increase, “be fruitful, and multiply,” became a standard formula of blessing.” The SDA Bible Commentary, Vol. 1, p. 214.

God has used this principle of multiplication in His dealing with nature and also in His dealing with His spiritual children, His church. God has put within us the ability to procreate. Jesus said to His disciples just before He departed from this earth to return to heaven, “Go you therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19 The disciples, who were few in number, were instructed to go and make other disciples. The ability to do so did not come from them; it was given to them by God. They were instructed to do what God had empowered them to do.

God has equipped us with the ability to multiply. He instructs us, through the same instructions that He gave to the early followers of Christ; to go, to teach, and to baptize. God had increase on His mind when He called us out of darkness to His wonderful light. If we hear the voice of our Savior and allow His Spirit to use us, the kingdom of God will experience the increase that God intended. May we receive His blessing and be faithful to His charge.

God bless you as you continue in His service.
