The scripture for today is Deuteronomy 11:1

Deuteronomy 11:1 Therefore you shall love the LORD your God, and keep His charge, His statutes, His judgments, and His commandments always.

God's commands and instructions are not for His benefit; they are for ours. Establishing a relationship with God is the single most important thing that any human being can do. It is out of that relationship that true life is realized.

Our relationship with God is based on receiving and understanding who He is. When we grasp the magnitude of what God offers us, it is impossible to walk away from Him and reject His love. Love is the foundation for all that He does because love is what He is. When our eyes are opened to spiritual realities, we see a God who, not only created us for fellowship with Himself, but a God who loved us so much that He refused to allow us to remain victims of the depravity of sin. He gave Himself to redeem us because His great love for us demanded it.

His charge, statutes, judgments and commandments are not given to diminish our happiness, they are given to protect us from the evil one and our inclinations toward the sinful flesh. He loves us and wants us to be free from the bondage of sin and to enjoy a life of freedom and joy. We must love Him enough to trust Him, knowing that He knows much better than we do what is best for us. “Because without this there could be no obedience to the Divine testimonies, and no happiness in the soul; for the heart that is destitute of the love of God, is empty of all good, and consequently miserable.” Adam Clarke

As our love for God is expressed through obedience to His word, our lives become more fulfilling and His joy becomes our daily experience. His word is not restrictive, it is liberating. The things we are instructed to avoid are the things that bring us into bondage, a place where we really would rather not be. He guides us along the path of righteousness; He attends to our needs. God loves us and our desire is to remain in the safety of His love, expressing our love for Him through obedience to His word which He has given to guide us in this life. “All that is in the world is vanity except to love God and serve Him only.” Thomas Kempis

God bless you as you continue in His service.
