Amos 3:7
The scripture for today is Amos 3:7
Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing unless He reveals His secret unto His servants the prophets.
Amos was a citizen of Tekoa in the tribe of Judah. He was a herdsman and a grower of sycamore fig trees. From his simple profession, God called Amos to be a prophet and to pronounce God's righteous judgment upon His unrighteous people, Israel. Israel had turned its back on God but before destruction, always comes a warning. "All the evils threatened upon Israel will come, but not without the Lord's first warning the people through the prophets. The mercy of God is shown by the fact that He does not bring His judgments upon men until He first warns them through His prophets. In spite of the fact that Israel had "commanded the prophets, saying, Prophesy not" (Amos 2:12), God proclaims that He will continue to reveal His will to His chosen messengers. He predicts the evil to come in the hope that He may not be forced to inflict it. Before the Lord brought the plagues upon Egypt, He warned Pharaoh through Moses. Before the Romans destroyed Jerusalem, Jesus foretold the city's destruction. So in our day, before the destruction of the world at the second coming of Christ, God has abundantly instructed us through the prophecies of His Word." SDA Bible Commentary
It would behoove us to pay careful attention to the prophecies that God has given us in His Word. He has revealed prophetic truth to this generation that has been hidden from ancient times. The enemy of our souls is working very hard to distract, distort, and discourage; but the revelation of God's Word is still available to us today. God's prophetic word is understood as we choose to surrender to Jesus Christ. That is the critical choice because Jesus is the Word and He alone gives revelation. He directs us in the path of righteousness.
"It is not enough to have good intentions; it is not enough to do what a man thinks is right or what the minister tells him is right. His soul's salvation is at stake, and he should search the Scriptures for himself. However strong may be his convictions, however confident he may be that the minister knows what is truth, this is not his foundation. He has a chart pointing out every waymark on the heavenward journey, and he ought not to guess at anything. It is the first and highest duty of every rational being to learn from the Scriptures what is truth, and then to walk in the light and encourage others to follow his example. We should day by day study the Bible diligently, weighing every thought and comparing scripture with scripture. With divine help we are to form our opinions for ourselves as we are to answer for ourselves before God." Ellen White, Great Controversy p598
Amos stood in the face of strong opposition and delivered the clear word of prophecy in His day. God has called us to live and deliver the truth of His Word today. We are in the last days; there is no time to waste.
God bless you as you continue in His service.
