The scripture for today is 1 Peter 2:5

1 Peter 2:5 You also, as living stones, are built up into a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

Each one of us provides an important component in the construction of God's tabernacle. It is not in temples made with stones and wood that He chooses to dwell in. He indwells a living temple that is made up of those whose lives have been sanctified by the sacrifice of Christ. Not only do His people make up His temple, but they also are His holy priesthood. While the metaphor is striking, it is readily understood as we consider that Jesus is both the heavenly High Priest and He is also the atoning sacrifice. He offers Himself, His life, for the atonement of the sin of man. Those who have been cleansed by His blood, whose lives have been transformed by His Word, have become His place of residence on earth. They are a spiritual house with Jesus Christ as the chief cornerstone. Because of the continued ministry of Christ through His holy priesthood, spiritual sacrifices continue to be offered. These are not the sacrifices of dead works but the sacrifices of surrendered lives, given completely to the service of God. These sacrifices are acceptable to God and Jesus Christ is the power through which they are delivered. May His power fill us daily and may we be living stones that reflect the love and character of God.
