The scripture for today is 1 Peter 1:16

1 Peter 1:16 Because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”

Holiness is not something we generate; it is imparted by God. It is maintained by a life that is surrendered to God. When God calls us to be holy, He is calling us to be like Himself. One who is holy will follow the path of holiness. “And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called the way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.” Isaiah 35:8

The words 'holy' and 'holiness' have been used so inappropriately that most people have very little concept of what they mean. These terms have been ascribed to people who hold positions created by men and not by God. In God’s kingdom, there is no select group that is deemed holy; there is no position that makes one holy. Holiness comes from God alone, and all who are His are holy.

God’s law is holy and those who are holy will keep His holy law. “Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.” Romans 7:12 When Christ returns for His bride, the church, He will be returning for a holy church. “That He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.” Ephesians 5:27

Those who are raised in the first resurrection will be holy. “Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.” Revelation 20:6

No one can be called a child of God who is not holy. No one who is not holy can see God. “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.” Hebrews 12:14 Being holy and living a holy life is not an option for the child of God, it is the normal Christian life. It is the only path that God has given us to take; it is the path of everlasting life.

God bless you as you continue in His service.
