The scripture for today is 1 Chronicles 16:10

1 Chronicles 16:10 Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the LORD!

The world, and the people ensnared by it, spend time and effort seeking that which will never satisfy.  Daily they put themselves to the task of pursuing fulfillment and lasting satisfaction. They never find it because nothing that is lasting can be found in a world that is passing away. All the world has to offer the traveler through life are temporary resting places. The respite found in those places is brief and is followed by more toil and searching for satisfaction.

God offers so much more to those who put their faith and trust in Him. He offers something that the world is unable to give; He offers eternal joy. While the world can counterfeit many of God’s gifts with cheap imitations that do not last, it cannot counterfeit lasting joy. But, for the child of God, “The joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10 And His joy is a function of His holy character.

Developing an appreciation for the holiness of God is one of our most important tasks. It is out of that appreciation and a desire to be like Him that we pursue holiness for our lives. We are instructed by God to “Be holy for I am holy.” Leviticus 11:44 We come to realize, however, that we cannot make ourselves holy no matter how hard we try. We find that we are simply unable to be like God. God knows our hearts, and He has made provision for us to become, in Him, what we cannot become through our own efforts.  God, in Christ, has put to death our old sinful man. He took upon Himself the nature of mankind and “God sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh.” Romans 8:3 His condemnation was not upon man; His condemnation was upon sin. And because of His sacrifice, man, who could in no way achieve holiness, can now become holy in Christ. We do not do it; He has already done it. Our part is to surrender our lives to Him and as we do, He bestows upon us the merits of His sacrifice. We become new creatures in Christ Jesus and are made, through Him, “holy and acceptable unto God.” “Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the LORD!”

God bless you as you continue in His service.
